SAIF: Accessible Information Awareness

The purpose of this e-module is to raise awareness about good practice in producing information that is accessible to its intended audience.

While particular emphasis is placed on the needs of disabled people, this module promotes the importance of following accessible information guidelines for everyone.

This module promotes the good practice guidelines for accessible information produced by the Scottish Accessible Information Forum (SAIF). It covers four topics and is split into four sections. We anticipate the total module will take around 45 minutes to complete. The four sections are:

  1. What is Accessible Information? SAIF’s message about producing printed documents.
  2. Alternative Formats. Different types of alternative formats [pop-up: an alternative format is one that enables someone to access information that would be inaccessible to them in the original format, for example braille, audio.] and how to obtain them.
  3. Assistive Technology. Accessible issues for users of assistive technology.[pop-up: assistive technology is a term used to describe alternative ways of accessing electronic information.]
  4. Accessible Information in Context. Accessible information in the context of disability legislation and models of disability.
